The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VS. the Subaru WRX STI 

The infamous grudge match between the Mitsubishi  Lancer Evolution and the Subaru WRX STI has been an ongoing battle throughout the years, and this year it's no different. Both vehicles have received complete makeovers, so which one will come out on top? The now lighter Subaru WRX STI or the heavier & longer Mitsubishi Lancer Evo? The outcome may surprise you. What does the winner receive? The title of the top all-wheel drive, turbo four-cylinder vehicle. Both are extremely popular and versatile rally and race vehicles used all around the world, however only one can come out the winner.  While every consumer has his or her own personal preference when it comes to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo versus the Subaru WRX STI, three of the largest, and most popular car enthusiast websites each chose the Evo as the winner after rigorous testing, and much debate.

In the comparison test done by Motortrend, “after three rounds and no knockout” the decision was left to the judges. It was a tough race, “but the decision is unanimous: By virtue of its sharper handling and superior fun factor, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution takes the title of all-wheel drive, turbo four-cylinder champion.” According to Car & Driver, “the Evolution inspires confidence in the way it goes over the road without event or drama or any strenuous amount of work from the driver. It’s predictable, it’s capable, and it’s more communicative than the competition. That lets you drive it harder and faster, so if you want to get somewhere in a hurry, the Lancer Evolution GSR is the best choice”

When Road & Track had previous tested the Evo vs. the STI in June 2003, the editors sided with the Subaru as their favorite, however, this time around, they decided on the Lancer Evo. Why the change in heart? According to the editors, “the outcome mostly has to do with the Evo’s fabulous AYC system, which has so elevated its handling and fun factor”.
